How To Check Battery Health and Performance On Windows, macOS?

    As the battery health decreases, the amount of charge the battery can hold decreases as well. This means that the phone may not last as long on a single charge and may need to be charged more frequently. Performance: As the battery health decreases, the phone may start to slow down.

    All rechargeable batteries are consumable components that become less effective as they chemically age.

    As lithium-ion batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in shorter amounts of time before a device needs to be recharged. This can be referred to as the battery’s maximum capacity – the measure of battery capacity relative to when it was new.

    In addition, a battery’s ability to deliver maximum instantaneous performance, or ‘peak power’, may decrease. In order for a phone to function properly, the electronics must be able to draw upon instantaneous power from the battery. One attribute that affects this instantaneous power delivery is the battery’s impedance. A battery with high impedance may be unable to provide sufficient power to the system that needs it.

    With a low battery state of charge, a higher chemical age or colder temperatures, users are more likely to experience unexpected shutdowns. In extreme cases, shutdowns can occur more frequently, thereby Rendering the device unreliable or unusable. For example, For iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iOS dynamically manages performance peaks to prevent the device from shutting down unexpectedly so that the iPhone can still be used.

    Battery Report On macOS

    To view your battery health condition, choose Apple menu 2f77cc85238452e25cb517130188bf99 > System Settings, then click Battery 🔋 in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

    Look at Battery Health on the right. You may see any of the following conditions:

    • Normal: The battery is functioning normally.
    • Service recommended: The battery is performing normally, but its ability to hold a charge is less than when it was new. You may want to consider replacing the battery.Note: The battery may also not be functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behaviour or the amount of charge it holds. Contact Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider for service. Repairs performed by untrained individuals or using non-genuine Apple parts may affect the safety and functionality of the device. See Find out how to service or repair your Mac. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer.

    Battery Report On Windows

    The actual battery report you’ll be generating is an easy-to-understand web page file. You just have to run a single command to create it.

    First, open a PowerShell window. Press Windows+X or right-click the Start button (represented by the Windows icon) and choose “PowerShell” from the Power User menu.

    At the PowerShell prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter:

    powercfg /batteryreport

    This command saves a battery report in HTML format to the following location;

    C:Users\YOUR_USERNAME\battery report.html

    In the generated report the most important details here, though, are the design capacity, full charge capacity, and cycle count numbers.

    For example, in the screenshot above, you can see that the design capacity of the battery is 44,400 mWh, while the current full charge capacity is 37,685 mWh. This is a result of the normal wear a battery experiences over time, and it lets you see just how worn down your battery is. The battery was originally designed to hold 42,002 mWh, but now has a maximum of 40,226, meaning it holds a little less charge than it used to. For reference, the laptop we used was about five years old. This number will continue going down over time as you use your battery and put it through more charge cycles.
